Whether you’ve got an hour or a whole weekend, there’s a perfect way to get involved. Help with activities, lead adventures, flip burgers at fundraisers, or keep things running behind the scenes. Every role is different, every contribution matters.
It’s brilliant for your mental well being and feels amazing knowing you’re helping young people gain skills for life. Plus, you’ll make friends, try new things, get outdoors, and create memories that’ll last a lifetime – all while positively impacting your community.
Never been a Scout? Can’t tie a knot? No problem! We welcome everyone – students building their CV, parents wanting family time, occasional helpers, tea makers, craft creators, and skill sharers. You don’t need special talents, just enthusiasm to help change young lives.
Not sure if volunteering is for you? We don’t ask for a lifetime commitment on day one. We invite all potential volunteers to try our 4-Week Challenge—a no-pressure trial to see how much fun you’ll have.
Week 1: See what it’s all about. Come along to a section meeting, observe the chaos, and meet the other leaders.
Week 2: Get stuck in. Help run a simple game or assist with a craft activity.
Week 3: Share a skill. Whether you can tie a knot, code a website, or cook a burger, share your hobby with the group.
Week 4: The Verdict. Sit down for a 10-minute chat with our Group Lead to decide if you’d like to join the team permanently or just help out occasionally.
Here are examples of where we need help now:
Parent helpers – Jump in on our rota system and help keep adventures safe and fun for everyone.
Section volunteers – Join out volunteers regularly to create amazing experiences that young people will never forget.
Facilities manager – Be the friendly face of Dane Valley HQ, managing bookings and making sure our space works brilliantly for everyone who uses it.
Note: Most roles will require a commitment to some Scout training and will be subject to the completion of background checks for safeguarding purposes. Our team will be available to offer support and advice.
